Albert Demeulemeester, or Bertal, was born in Lille on March 27, 1897. He married Rosine Malaisse in 1918. He became an artist recognized by the press in the late 1920s. In 1929, his wife died during a drowning, with the wife of Léopold Simonsbertal dedicates herself to his career and becomes the popular singer of Lille, favorite performer of Simons, Auguste Labbe and Pierre Manaut. He will sing in particular: «Elle s'appelle Françoise, Les cris de Lille, Si j'avos su j'aros resté garchon, Les camanettes»...
At the end of the 1930s he created the Nord-Spectacles artistic business agency which will promote the careers of many regional artists. He died on 14 March 1960 at the age of 62.
