En Douce – The Grand Revue of the Casino de Paris (1922)

In December 1922, the Casino de Paris reopened after a devastating fire with a dazzling revue titled En Douce, directed by Léon Volterra. This production marked a turning point in Parisian music-hall history, blending glamour, innovation, and star power.

The show featured two acts and forty scenes, headlined by the iconic Mistinguett, alongside her partner Earl Leslie. The staging was spectacular, including a retractable glass-walled pool beneath the stage—an impressive technical feat for the time.

Among the featured songs were:

"En Douce" – the title song performed by Mistinguett

"La Java" – a lively and popular dance number

"Pardon Mam’zelle" – a duet with Mistinguett & Saint-Granier

"Japanese Lantern’s Blues" – performed by Bérard and the Mitchell’s Jazz Kings

En Douce captured the spirit of the Roaring Twenties, combining artistic boldness with Parisian elegance. It remains a symbol of the Casino de Paris’s rebirth and the brilliance of the French stage.
